Do You Know What's in Your Pet's Food?

Have you looked at the ingredient list in your pet's food lately? Even though it may say "healthy" or "natural" and have pictures of veggies and slices of good looking meat on the front doesn't mean it has any of that inside.

Over the last few years many large pet food companies have cut corners and costs by decreasing quality control and importing many ingredients from overseas. Our pets have paid the price when they eat contaminated foods.

We go out of our way to know where the foods we carry are made, where they source ingredients, and of of course what those ingredients are! You won't find the following products in any food Aunt Kerry has on the shelf:

  • Byproducts- byproducts, even if they indicate a protein source, are rendered "meat" products of questionable quality and source. Look for foods with Chicken, Chicken Meal, Lamb, Lamb Meal, Beef, etc. as the primary ingredient in your pet's diet. No byproducts should appear in the ingredient list.
  • Corn, Wheat- A low quality, low nutrition ingredient. Look for whole grain ingredients like rice, borwn rice, oatmeal, or barley. Corn Gluten, Wheat Gluten- Used as a protein filler. It is not a suitable replacement for real protein sources!
  • Synthetic Preservatives (BHA, BHT, Ethoxyquin)- A cheap way to preserve your pet's food, but might lead to health problems such as cancer and kidney problems in the long run. Why use a synthetic when natural preservatives such as rosemary and vitamin E work fine?
  • Coloring/Artificial Flavors- These are not a healthy part of your pet's daily diet. You wouldn't feed children Fruit Loops all the time, no reason to feed your pet the equivalent.
